The Port Security Corps has launched an investigation into allegations that one of their male employees and another man, a pilot, was caught in an 'compromising' position last week.

Reports reaching THE STAR say that the men were allegedly caught by members of a police unit on patrol in an open lot near the Norman Manley International Airport.

"We have heard about the incident and we are investigating," Michael Hinds, port commander at the airport, told THE STAR yesterday. Hinds said no official report has been made to them but because of the allegations it was inevitable that they "check it out".

Paid off police

According to reports, the men, after being caught, were released shortly after without being taken to the Norman Manley Police Station for questioning and possible charges. It is alleged that money was paid over to the officers to release the men and to keep the matter on the 'down low'.

This has reportedly not gone down well with other employees of the corps, who thought the men should have been charged. Some told THE STAR they had suspected their colleague to be "of a certain orientation" and had even planned to "beat" him.

Efforts to speak to Deputy Superintendent Victor Hinds in charge of the Norman Manley police proved futile yesterday, but Superintendent Que Morgan of the Motorised Patrol Division said he had heard of both allegations that the men were caught and that money was paid to release them.

"We've heard of it," Supt. Morgan said, quickly pointing out that none of the two allegations, however, can be substantiated. He said he has spoken to the officers who would have been on duty around the airport area and they reported nothing irregular during their patrols.
